The free public event is presented in partnership with The Kohala Center’s Hawaii Island School Garden Network.

Earth Day Saturday
Hawaii Preparatory Academy will host its second annual Earth Day Family Celebration and Environmental Science Symposium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the upper campus’ Ulu Malama Terrace Farm. The free public event is presented in partnership with The Kohala Center’s Hawaii Island School Garden Network.
Student teams from HPA middle and upper, Honokaa High and Waikoloa Middle schools and West Hawaii Explorations Academy will present reports on projects ranging from agro-ecology to ocean conservation.
Community members may participate in one of four workshops: tree planting, history and cultivation of uala, cooking with local foods harvested from the HPA gardens, and vermicomposting and compost teas. Lunch will follow.

HPA’s Ohana Sustainability events are funded by the Will J. Reid Foundation and the Richard Smart Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation. The next event, Sustainable Fiber Arts Symposium, is slated for May 3 and 4.
Marine Corps League meeting Saturday
The Camp Tarawa Detachment 1255 of the Marine Corps League meets Saturday at the Kings’ Grill at the Waikoloa Beach Kings’ Golf Course. A no-host lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. business meeting. All serving, retired or reserve Marines and Navy corpsmen and their spouses may attend. Dress is resort casual.

Horsemanship program receives accreditation
Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii’s Kona program is now a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International Premier Accredited Center. PATH International sets high standards for safety, professionalism, administrative requirements, animal care and facility maintenance. The voluntary accreditation process demonstrates the program’s commitment to adhere to these standards and maintain a safe and professional operation.
THH-Kona operates at Horseplay Equestrian Center in Honalo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays. Riders, ages 3 to 30, all have special needs.
